The Indonesian Petroleum Engineers Association (IATMI) is an organization that plays a vital role in the national oil and gas sector. As a forum for professionals in the oil and gas industry, IATMI is expected to serve as a pillar in maintaining academic standards, professionalism, and in driving the advancement of energy development in Indonesia.
In the near future, IATMI will hold the IATMI Congress 2025. There are three candidates participating in the 2025 IATMI election, one of whom is Muhammad Iksan Kiat.
As candidate number two in the IATMI election, Iksan has a vision to transform IATMI into a center for the development of Indonesia’s petroleum industry that is innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive, through member-based growth and multi-sector collaboration.
“We will also expand the benefits for members and ensure organizational sustainability, positioning IATMI as Indonesia’s Petroleum Center, strengthening its global image through innovation, collaboration, and competency-based work programs,” he said in an official statement on Monday (April 14, 2025).
Interestingly, one of Iksan’s missions is to ensure that every aspiration and competence of members is accommodated, by actively identifying their needs and expectations through surveys and discussion forums.
“In addition, the organization will provide various training and certification programs to enhance members’ professional skills in response to the ever-evolving dynamics of the oil and gas industry,” he continued.
Furthermore, as part of his mission as Chairman of IATMI, Iksan will focus on advocacy and acceleration, with IATMI playing an active role in encouraging national energy and petroleum policies. Moreover, accelerating the adoption of new technologies in oil and gas exploration and production will be a top priority.
He also promises to strengthen IATMI’s reputation and presence by building its image as a credible and innovative professional organization. These efforts will be reinforced through the development of broader communication platforms, ensuring IATMI becomes increasingly recognized both nationally and internationally.
On the other hand, one of Iksan’s missions emphasizes collaboration and competition externally, where IATMI will expand partnerships with international organizations and global oil and gas industry players. “In addition, innovation and technology competitions in the oil and gas sector will be introduced to enhance members’ competitiveness and promote technological advancement,” he explained.
Another mission of Iksan is consolidation and contribution, whereby IATMI will actively engage in education and training to produce a new generation of high-quality oil and gas professionals.
In line with his mission, Iksan also commits that the organization will participate in providing sustainable energy solutions to support the energy transition and address future challenges in the energy industry.
Furthermore, Iksan highlights legacy and inspiration, aiming for IATMI to create valuable legacies in the form of policies, innovations, and sustainable programs.
“With this vision, IATMI will continue to inspire young generations to contribute to the oil and gas and energy industries, and to build a reputation as an influential organization with high integrity,” Iksan concluded.
Currently, Iksan serves as a Special Advisor to the Minister in the areas of investment acceleration, production enhancement, and risk management at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, a position he has held since December 2024.
Iksan also calls on IATMI members, who are practitioners in the oil and gas industry, to exercise their voting rights. He hopes that not only the candidates remain enthusiastic in developing Indonesia’s oil and gas industry, but also that all IATMI members actively participate in building the future of the sector.
“Use your voting rights wisely. Let us work together to build a better oil and gas industry in Indonesia,” he said.
