Jakarta, August 26, 2026 — Head of the Oil and Gas Research and Development Center (LEMIGAS), Muhammad Iksan Kiat, accompanied Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Laode Sulaeman, at a Hearing Meeting (Rapat Dengar Pendapat/RDP) with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The meeting was part of Commission XII DPR RI’s oversight function over the government and key stakeholders in the energy sector, particularly the oil and gas industry. The forum provided an opportunity for the DPR RI to receive updates and discuss various strategic agendas related to the management of Indonesia’s oil and gas sector.

The meeting was chaired by Sugeng Suparwoto, S.T., Vice Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI for the 2024–2029 term. In his opening remarks, Sugeng stated that Commission XII DPR RI was holding the hearing with several key stakeholders involved in the management of the oil and gas sector.

“Commission XII DPR RI will conduct a hearing with the Director General of Oil and Gas, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Head of SKK Migas, the Head of BPH Migas, and the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) as part of its oversight function,” Sugeng said.

The participation of these stakeholders highlights the importance of cross-institutional coordination in addressing various issues and policies in the oil and gas sector. The government, regulators, business entities, and technical institutions each have an important role in ensuring that the oil and gas sector operates effectively and continues to support national energy needs.

During the hearing, Muhammad Iksan Kiat participated in discussions with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and members of Commission XII DPR RI. The presence of the Head of LEMIGAS was significant given LEMIGAS’s role in providing technical and scientific support for policies and activities in the oil and gas sector.

LEMIGAS carries out research and development, testing, and technical services related to oil and gas. These functions contribute to the provision of data, studies, and technical recommendations to support evidence-based policymaking in the energy sector.

The hearing also provided an opportunity for members of Commission XII DPR RI to highlight the role and new responsibilities of LEMIGAS under the leadership of Muhammad Iksan Kiat.

Member of Commission XII DPR RI, H. Yulisman, S.Si., M.M., congratulated Iksan Kiat on his appointment as Head of LEMIGAS. He emphasized that the position carries significant responsibilities, particularly with regard to the new responsibilities related to fuel imports.

“First, we would like to congratulate Mr. Iksan on his appointment as Head of LEMIGAS. In my view, his responsibilities are quite significant, particularly with the new responsibility related to fuel imports,” Yulisman said.

The statement highlights the increasingly important role of LEMIGAS in supporting the government in responding to the dynamics of national energy demand. As a technical institution in the oil and gas sector, LEMIGAS is expected to continuously strengthen its capabilities and provide research- and expertise-based support in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to it by the government.

Amid growing energy needs, strengthening oil and gas governance remains essential to maintaining national energy availability and security. Therefore, synergy among the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, DPR RI, LEMIGAS, SKK Migas, BPH Migas, Pertamina, and other stakeholders is crucial in addressing challenges across the energy sector.

For LEMIGAS, participation in the hearing with Commission XII DPR RI also served as an opportunity to strengthen institutional communication and ensure that technical and scientific support can be provided effectively in implementing government policies in the oil and gas sector.

As Head of LEMIGAS, Muhammad Iksan Kiat carries the responsibility of ensuring that the institution remains responsive to the evolving needs of the oil and gas sector. Strengthening research, testing, technological innovation, and technical services is an integral part of increasing LEMIGAS’s contribution to the national energy sector.

The hearing also demonstrated the importance of transparency and coordination between the DPR RI and the government in carrying out oversight and managing the energy sector. The discussions are expected to contribute to strategic measures that address challenges in the oil and gas sector while strengthening national energy security.

The participation of Head of LEMIGAS Iksan Kiat in the hearing reflects LEMIGAS’s commitment to strengthening its strategic role in supporting government policies. By emphasizing technical expertise, research, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, LEMIGAS is expected to continue contributing to the effective, reliable, and sustainable development of Indonesia’s oil and gas sector.
